Beach hacks to make the most of your summer vacation

Ahhhh, isn’t summer the greatest?! Although we love nothing more than snuggling by the fire with a hot cup of cocoa in the winter, there’s just something about wearing shorts and a vest top in the sun that puts a smile on our face. That’s probably because there’s so much more to do in the summer months. You can chill out in your backyard and make use of your pool if you’re lucky enough to have one, you can spend your evenings on rooftop bars without a jacket, and you can spend your weekends at the beach. It really doesn’t get much better than that. If you do plan on going to the beach this summer, check out these beach hacks…

Protect your phone from the sand

Although we love the beach, we HATE the sand. It’s nice to feel in between your toes for a moment, but before too long you have sand on every inch of your body, in every orifice, and on everything you have ever owned. It’s a nightmare. While you can normally dust off this sand if you have a few hours to spare, trying to get sand out of your iPhone is a mission and a half – and you will never get it done no matter how hard you try. So, it’s best to just not tempt fate in the first place, and keep your iPhone safe from harm. The best way to do this is to place your iPhone into a plastic sandwich bag and seal it. This will keep the sand away, but will also allow you to still use it! It’s a win-win situation.

Make use of a fitted sheet

Sand is even more of a nuisance when you’re trying to dry off in the sun. You’ve just spent a good amount of time frolicking in the water, and you just want to dry off on your towel without every single grain of the sand sticking to you… is that so much to ask? Luckily, there is a way to stop the sand getting onto your dry towel or blanket so it won’t ruin your day. All you have to do is grab a spare fitted sheet from your bedroom and set it up upside down on the sand. By using markers in each corner, you can create your own little sand-free den which will allow you to dry off in no time.

Keep your valuables safe

Going to the beach is all kinds of fun, but sometimes you stop yourself from having fun and going into the ocean because you’re worried about leaving your things alone. After all, you never know who is roaming the sand and will happily swoop down and take your wallet, keys, or more. However, you shouldn’t have to spoil your fun because someone else could potentially steal your things! You just need to keep it safe. A cool (but weird) way to do this is to wrap your belongings into a diaper. Of course, it will be a clean one, but nobody needs to know that. If someone sees a presumably dirty diaper on the sand, the chances are that they aren’t going to go and touch it.

Lighten your hair for the summer months

When the sun comes out, you just want to be light and free – especially when it comes to your hair. Yet, there’s no point shelling out for professional highlights when you can basically do the same thing at home for free. If you’re serious about lightening your hair, simply squeeze lemon juice over your hair. As soon as you go into the sun, the lemon juice will cause your hair to lighten, and you’ll rock the beach babe look.
